The Sounds (FIN)

Vuonna 1961 perustettu The Sounds on Suomen ensimmäisiä kitarayhtyeitä. Yhtye teki ensimmäiset radionauhoituksensa jo vuodenvaihteessa 1961–1962, ja joululomalla tammikuussa 1963 tehtiin ensimmäinen levy "Emma/Mandschurian Beat”.

Emmasta tuli suuri hitti Suomessa. Levy oli myyntilistojen kärjessä lähes puoli vuotta ja sitä myytiin yli 20.000 kappaletta. Levymyynti, TV-esiintymiset ja kiertueet nostivat The Sounds -yhtyeen maan suosituimmaksi kitarayhtyeeksi Iskelmä-lehden lukijaäänestyksessä vuonna 1963. "Mandschurian Beat" nousi Japanissa myyntilistoille ja sitä myytiin satoja tuhansia kappaleita. Tämä oli myös ensimmäinen suomalainen kevyen musiikin menestys ulkomailla. Myös yhtyeen myöhemmät levyt "Kulkuri" ja "Yksinäinen Kitara" nousivat Suomessa myyntilistoille.

The Sounds oli myös ensimmäinen suomalainen kitarayhtye, jonka levyllä kaikki yhtyeen jäsenet lauloivat. Yhtyeen kokoonpano vaihtui muutamaan otteeseen sitä mukaa kun musiikin suuntaus maailmalla muuttui. Vuonna 1965 yhtye jäi pitkälle tauolle jäsenten keskityttyä opintoihin ja työelämään, mutta teki comebackin 46 vuoden esiintymistauon jälkeen Nastolan Rautalankafestivaaleilla vuonna 2011 ja on esiintynyt säännöllisesti jälleen siitä lähtien.

The Sounds was founded in 1961 and the band is one one first twang bands in Finland. They made their first radio recording at end of 1961 and 1963 band made their first record, legendary single "Emma/Mandschurian Beat”.

"Emma" become huge hit in Finland. The record was one of the best sold single for nearly six months and sold over 20.000 copies. . Record sale, TV-shows and tours made The Sounds the most popular guitar band in Finland and Iskelmä-magazine readers voted the band as their favourite in 1963. "Mandschurian Beat" rose up in Japan too and has sold hundreds of thousand copies. This was the first Finnish overseas success in pop music. The later records as "Kulkuri" ja "Yksinäinen Kitara" were receaving also a great success in Finland.

The Sounds was the first guitar band where all band members also were singing. The Sound line-up was going trough few changes as the music trends changed. In 1965 band took a long break members focusing their studies and working life.

The Sounds made their comeback after 46 years at the Nastola Twang Festival in 2011 and been performing since.
